To demonstrate learning outcome #1, which is “explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetoric situations”, I will write about the three main texts we have reviewed in our literature class and our in-depth analysis in each including. In Citizen by Claudia Rankine, we dive into a text told in second person that illustrates to us readers the injustices that people of color faced in society based on the micro aggressions that is constantly present in the text. In SignsPrecedingtheEnd of the World by Yuri Herrera, we discussed how Makina’s journey to the United States from Mexico in order to find and bring her brother back home shows the readers how the experiences a person has in their life has a strong impact on the person they become. In Excess—The Factory by Leslie Kaplan, we discussed how the author presents the idea that factory workers are forced to submit to their job taking over most of their life and causes them to feel isolated and unsatisfied with their lives because of it. In addition to analyzing the text at face value, we also dissected the texts further in order to understand how the texts relate to the course theme of “self and other” and individual and society. This theme is also present in other texts we analyzed such as Howl by Ginsberg which demonstrates how society changes ones “self” similar to that of all the previous texts mentioned.
To demonstrate learning outcome #2, which is “develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing”, I have posted below a sample piece of a draft paragraph from my Final comparative essay from my class discussion board. This paragraph focuses mostly on Citizen by Claudia Rankine.
To demonstrate learning outcome #3, which is to show proof of my change throughout the drafting process, I have provided a sample below of the final edition of the same paragraph above in order to show the change.
To demonstrate learning outcome #4, which is to show my involvement in collaborative writing with my peers, I have provided an example of a peer grading one of my paragraphs from a draft essay using a rubric on discussion board.
Fo learning outcome #5, which is to understand and use print and digital technologies to address a range of audience, the criteria was not met to its fullest. To satisfy the criteria, taking initiative by researching websites in order to add onto your analysis is essential. However, I prioritized the discussions we would have during class and the suggestions of my peers which I would receive from their past work or feedback on my own work. Believing that that was enough information for me to work with and the solid understanding of the texts that I gained from our discussions, I seldomly used outside resources such as websites for further insight
For learning outcome #6, which is ensuring that your resources have good credibility, the criteria for me would also not be met by default due to the outcome of #5. Since I rarely used outside sources for information, there was never any source that needed to be checked for credibility.
To demonstrate learning outcome #7, which is to prove your analysis and other strategies of deciphering text in order to compose your own responses. Below this is my analysis of Citizen, Signs Preceding the End of the World, and Excess—The Factory, as I have posted on Blackboard’s discussion board.
To demonstrate learning outcome #8, which is to practice the application of text citations or footnotes, I will provide an example of me using citation in my discussion board response.
